Hairstylists for Humanity was incorporated in 2003 under the leadership of Mario Betto, a hairstylist and philanthropist.

For the first six years of the organization's existence, beauty and grooming services were provided free of charge to various social service agencies in South Florida.

Over 18,000 individuals received services from Hairstylists for Humanity.  Social service agencies included homeless shelters, shelters for abused women, hospices for individuals living with HIV/AIDS, oncology departments at hospitals, children with special needs and senior centers catering to senior citizens living on fixed incomes.

Hairstylists for Humanity additionally promoted summer food drives to benefit a variety of shelters and food pantries in South Florida.

In November of 2009, Hairstylists for Humanity committed to change its course of service to the community. Through fund-raisers and community participation, the goal is to raise funds to provide educational opportunities.

The focus is to empower individuals who do not have the financial resources to improve their lives for themselves and their families via education. 

The Hairstylists for Humanity Scholarship Program will provide scholarships to eligible individuals to attain the education and licensing needed to become Nail Specialists, Facial Specialists and Cosmetologists.  We believe that education is power.
